Free preview · Lesson 2.1

How to safely transfer a client from bed to wheelchair

One of the most common — and most injury-prone — tasks in private duty. In this lesson you'll learn the gait belt technique, body mechanics that protect your back, and what to do when the client can only bear partial weight.

Watch the lesson
  1. 1Assess the client and lock the wheelchair brakes
  2. 2Position the gait belt at the natural waist
  3. 3Use your legs, not your back — feet shoulder-width apart
  4. 4Count out loud: 'On three: one, two, three, stand'
  5. 5Pivot in small steps; never twist at the spine
I left the agency after 9 years. Within 6 weeks I had four private clients and was earning double what I made before.
Marisol G. · Private duty CNA, Tampa FL
I had zero healthcare background. The clinical videos and the contract templates got me up and running in three months.
